People often book consultations with Oakville’s Nottinghill Family Wellness Centre chiropractor, Dr. Steve Knighton with low back pain complaints. And often SI joint pain and piriformis pain are the reason. Near the bottom of the spine there is the sacrum which is connected to the pelvis via the SI joint. This is where patients frequently say most of their pain is coming from. The pain is coming from a misplaced Si joint. The joint may be moving and rubbing against itself which causes the majority of the pain. It restricts movement such as bending forward and backwards. The two main reasons this happens is because of the Quadratus Lumborum muscle which causes the back to pull up and the SI joint to fall out of places (Q.L Anatomy Video)
or the piriformis. The piriformis externally rotates the hip. It can do this because it is connected from the bottom of the sacrum to the edge of the hip across the butt. Generally in the back pocket area of jean’s. This type of pain would be classified as a piriformis pain if low back pain which extends into the butt is present. If the pain shoots down past the knee then it would be considered sciatic nerve pain possible with piriformis pain if the pain once again involves butt pain. When there is pain the first thing you should do it ice and book an appointment so Dr. Steve can have a look at it and enable you to feel yourself once again.
