Our Chiropractors don’t even know where to start with this, but we’ll pick three common misconceptions about injuries and chiropractic care.
Chiropractic Myth 1. If you’re injured – you need complete rest.
No! For most injuries, being able to keep moving is SO IMPORTANT. Our Oakville Chiropractors know it’s probably easier to just lay on the couch, but movement will help you recover more quickly. Our bodies are made to move, not lay on the couch and binge watch Grey’s Anatomy. Within reason, keeping the injured area moving while you recover will speed up the recovery process. Of course there are exceptions to this, but remaining active through an injury is good for the body and the mind!
2. Chiropractic care is dangerous.
Absolutely not. In fact, chiropractic care has come a long way in the past few years, with the medical profession identifying chiropractic care and adjustments as an excellent first-line treatment for back pain. Chiropractors have 8 years (…8 long years) of post-secondary education. They are so well trained to identify the source of pain, diagnose injuries/conditions and treat those injuries safely and effectively. Click here for more information.
But what about those neck adjustments? They are completely safe too. We are trained to identify patients who aren’t good candidates for neck adjustments, but most people are! Despite the nasty rumours out there – all the research shows that they DO NOT cause strokes. You’re in good hands with a diligent chiropractor.

Chiropractor Myth 3. Pain is the first indicator something is wrong
Highly unlikely. In acute injuries (ie – a sports injury) then pain may show up quickly. In all the injuries that creep up slowly, there are probably signs that something is going wrong before you even start to feel pain. A small compensation in the way the affected area moves, weakness in the muscles surrounding the area are both signs that something is going on. Even small twinges of pain that only last a second can be an early warning sign that something isn’t right!
