Physiotherapy for Veterans and CAF Members

Pain, stiffness and weakness can make everyday tasks harder than they should be. Our physiotherapy in Oakville focuses on assessing the problem, improving movement and building the strength needed for daily activity.

Vinaya Chitgopkar, registered physiotherapist, brings more than 26 years of experience to patient care. Your assessment considers your symptoms, movement, strength, previous injuries and the activities that matter to you.

Treatment can include manual therapy, progressive exercise, mobility work, balance training and appropriate pain-relief modalities. You receive practical guidance for what to do between appointments, with exercises adapted to your ability and progress.

Physiotherapy appointments using VAC or CAF benefits require the applicable coverage and authorization. Our reception team checks the information for your visit.

Chiropractic Care With Dr. Steve, Dr. Jenn and Dr. Alex

Our chiropractors assess and treat musculoskeletal problems involving the spine, joints, muscles and surrounding tissues. Your appointment includes a discussion of your symptoms, an examination and an explanation of the recommended care.

Doctor Steve Knighton has provided chiropractic care in Oakville since 2008. His approach combines hands-on joint and muscle treatment with rehabilitation and appropriate modalities. Treatment is reassessed according to your progress.

Dr. Jenn Garven provides individualized chiropractic care and contemporary medical acupuncture. She completed her chiropractic education at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and additional acupuncture training through McMaster University.

Your chiropractic treatment can include adjustments, joint mobilization, muscle release techniques, instrument-assisted soft tissue treatment and exercises. The combination depends on your assessment, preferences and clinical needs.

Shockwave Therapy and Suction IFC

You should understand what your appointment includes. At our clinic, shockwave therapy carries no separate surcharge when included in a chiropractic or physiotherapy visit.

Shockwave therapy is one option for selected tendon and soft tissue conditions, including some cases of persistent heel pain, Achilles tendon pain, elbow tendinopathy and shoulder tendon problems. Your practitioner determines whether it fits your diagnosis and stage of recovery.

Suction interferential current therapy, or suction IFC, uses suction electrodes to deliver electrical stimulation for short-term pain relief. It is commonly used before hands-on care in our clinic when appropriate for the patient.

These modalities support a broader treatment plan. Your practitioner also addresses movement, strength and the activities contributing to your symptoms. Coverage is checked for the authorized visit; individual techniques do not create separate benefit entitlements.

Registered Massage Therapy for Veterans

Our registered massage therapy in Oakville provides hands-on care for muscle tension, soft tissue discomfort and movement restrictions. Treatment is adapted to your symptoms, pressure preferences and goals.

Massage can complement physiotherapy or chiropractic care when clinically appropriate. Your therapist reviews your health history and explains the proposed approach before beginning.

VAC includes massage therapy among its related health service benefits for eligible clients. Our team checks the applicable requirements and available coverage. Serving CAF members should confirm separate authorization, because massage therapy is not a standard CAF Spectrum of Care benefit

Acupuncture With Dr. Jenn

Dr. Jenn offers acupuncture in Oakville as an option within individualized care. Following assessment, acupuncture can be considered for selected musculoskeletal pain concerns and used alongside other appropriate treatment.

Fine needles are placed at selected points, with the approach explained before treatment. Tell Dr. Jenn about your medical history, medications and comfort with needles so she can determine whether acupuncture is suitable.

Acupuncture coverage depends on your program, authorization and the requirements for the practitioner delivering it. Our team checks how Dr. Jenn’s care applies to your benefits before a funded appointment.

Custom Orthotics and Compression Socks

Custom Foot Orthotics

Our custom orthotics in Oakville service includes assessment of your feet, walking mechanics, symptoms and footwear. Orthotics are considered when additional support is appropriate for your condition and daily activities.

Tell us whether you primarily need support for work shoes, walking footwear or other activities. Recommendations should fit both your clinical needs and the footwear you actually use.

Orthotic benefits have their own prescription, supplier and authorization requirements. Contact us before ordering so we can check the applicable coverage and explain any costs.

Compression Sock Fitting

We provide compression socks and fitting in Oakville. Correct sizing and the appropriate compression level matter, particularly when garments are prescribed for a medical condition.

Bring your prescription if you have one. Our team can review the product requirements and check whether your particular VAC or CAF benefit applies before purchase. Coverage for compression garments is separate from coverage for physiotherapy or chiropractic appointments.

Pain and Injuries We Assess and Treat – Veterans Affairs Oavkille

Veterans and serving members come to us with recent injuries, persistent pain and difficulty returning to normal activity. You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself before calling.

The conditions below describe our clinical services. Whether a particular condition or service is funded depends on your individual VAC or CAF eligibility and authorization.

Back Pain and Sciatica

Lower back pain can interfere with sitting, lifting, driving and sleep. Your assessment looks at movement, strength and neurological findings where indicated, helping identify an appropriate plan.

For pain travelling into the buttock or leg, our sciatica assessment and treatment considers possible nerve involvement and other sources of referred pain. Care is adapted to your findings, with medical referral when further investigation is needed.

Neck Pain and Related Headaches

Neck stiffness and discomfort can affect driving, desk work and rest. Our neck pain treatment combines assessment with appropriate joint, muscle and exercise-based care.

We also assess headaches with suspected neck or muscle contributions. Your practitioner considers the headache pattern and determines whether musculoskeletal care or further medical assessment is appropriate.

Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Problems

Pain with reaching, lifting or lying on your shoulder can make both work and sleep difficult. We assess shoulder movement, strength and the activities that reproduce your symptoms.

Our shoulder pain treatment includes care for selected rotator cuff problems, tendon irritation and joint stiffness. Treatment can combine hands-on therapy, progressive strengthening and appropriate modalities.

Hip Pain, Knee Pain and Arthritis-Related Stiffness

Difficulty with stairs, squatting, walking or getting out of a chair deserves a clear assessment. We examine the affected joint and contributing movement patterns to guide treatment.

Our knee pain and rehabilitation services address a range of musculoskeletal concerns. Plans focus on improving strength, movement and activity tolerance, including for people managing arthritis-related symptoms.

Elbow, Wrist and Hand Symptoms

Gripping, lifting, tool use and repetitive activity can aggravate elbow and wrist pain. We assess concerns such as tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and selected wrist injuries.

For arm pain, numbness or tingling, assessment helps determine whether symptoms involve the neck, peripheral nerves or local tissues. The findings guide treatment and any necessary referral.

Heel Pain, Achilles Tendon Pain and Ankle Injuries

Foot and ankle symptoms can limit walking and exercise. We assess heel pain, tendon complaints, ankle sprains and movement restrictions, then develop a plan around your diagnosis and activity goals.

Our plantar fasciitis and heel pain care can involve load management, exercises, hands-on treatment, footwear advice and shockwave when appropriate. Orthotics are considered according to your individual assessment.

How Veterans Affairs Canada Coverage Works

VAC treatment benefits help eligible clients access approved healthcare services. Medavie Blue Cross administers authorizations and claims for the program.

For your appointment, our team checks the relevant service, provider requirements and any necessary referral or approval. Your available benefits depend on your individual circumstances; holding veteran status alone does not confirm coverage for every treatment.

VAC states that clients can choose a healthcare provider who meets its requirements. Read the official Veterans Affairs Canada treatment benefits information for details about eligibility, provider choice and claims.

If your care is coordinated through the VAC Rehabilitation Program or PCVRS, mention this when booking so we can check the arrangements that apply.

How Coverage Works for Serving CAF Members

Serving Canadian Armed Forces members access funded civilian care through the applicable military healthcare referral and authorization process. This differs from VAC treatment benefits.

Before attending, obtain the required referral from your military healthcare team and share the relevant authorization details with our reception staff. We’ll check the arrangements for your practitioner and service.

National Defence’s CAF medical care and practitioner benefits explain physician-prescribed services and follow-up requirements. Reservists should confirm their current entitlement with their military healthcare team, because circumstances vary.

Your First Appointment: Four Simple Steps

  1. Call 905-827-4197. Tell us what is bothering you and whether you use VAC or CAF benefits.
  2. Have your information ready. Bring your healthcare identification details and any referral or authorization documents.
  3. Confirm your coverage. We check the billing arrangements and explain any amount payable.
  4. Meet your practitioner. Receive an assessment, a clear explanation and treatment when appropriate and authorized.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows examination of the affected area. Bring relevant imaging reports if available and tell us about previous treatment. If you are booking orthotics, bring the shoes you expect to wear them in.

Which chiropractors at your clinic accept Veterans Affairs patients?

Have your VAC healthcare identification details available when contacting us, along with any referral or authorization documents. Our team checks the billing arrangements and explains any amount payable before you proceed.

Is physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment fully covered by VAC?

Eligible treatment is fully covered when your approved benefit covers our entire fee and the required authorization is in place. Coverage depends on your individual entitlement, the service and any applicable limits. We confirm the details for your appointment rather than assuming every veteran has the same benefits.

Do I need a doctor’s referral for Veterans Affairs treatment?

Referral requirements depend on the service and your VAC benefit. You can call our clinic directly to ask about an appointment, and our team will explain whether a prescription, referral or authorization is needed for funded care. Bring any documents you already have so we can check the next step.

Can serving Canadian Armed Forces members book physiotherapy or chiropractic care?

Yes. Serving CAF members can contact our Oakville clinic to arrange care under the applicable military referral and authorization process. Have your military healthcare team’s referral and approval details available when booking. CAF and VAC are different programs, so we check the requirements for the program funding your appointment.

How many Veterans Affairs treatment visits are covered?

There is no single visit allowance that applies to every patient and service. Your available appointments depend on your benefits, authorization and visits already used. Our team checks your remaining approved coverage. If further treatment is clinically indicated, your practitioner can explain the process for requesting additional authorization.

Can I get a same-day Veterans Affairs appointment in Oakville?

Call 905-827-4197 for today’s availability. Same-day appointments depend on the practitioner’s schedule and having the required coverage information and authorization in place. Treatment can begin following your assessment when clinically appropriate.

Treatment is based on your findings and can include hands-on care, strengthening exercises and appropriate modalities. Read about our shoulder pain treatment in Oakville. VAC funding depends on your individual entitlement and authorization.

Can I use Veterans Affairs benefits for back pain, neck pain or sciatica care?

Eligible VAC benefits can fund approved care for these concerns, depending on your entitlement. Our team assesses back pain, neck pain and sciatica symptoms to determine the appropriate treatment or referral. Tell reception which area is bothering you when booking.

Do you provide knee, hip and foot pain treatment for veterans?

Yes. We assess musculoskeletal concerns involving the hips, knees, feet and ankles, including arthritis-related stiffness, tendon pain and injuries affecting walking or exercise. Explore our knee pain treatment and plantar fasciitis care. Your assessment guides treatment, and your individual benefits determine funding.

Is shockwave therapy included in my chiropractic or physiotherapy appointment?

There is no separate shockwave surcharge when it is included in your chiropractic or physiotherapy visit. Your practitioner determines whether it is appropriate for your condition. We check coverage for the authorized appointment; shockwave does not automatically create a separate VAC or CAF benefit. Learn more about our shockwave therapy in Oakville.

Can I receive massage therapy through Veterans Affairs?

Yes, eligible VAC clients can receive approved registered massage therapy. Our team checks the service requirements and available coverage before treatment. Visit our massage therapy page for more information. Serving CAF members have different rules and should not assume massage is covered under their standard benefits.

Can I use Veterans Affairs benefits for custom orthotics or compression socks?

Coverage must be checked for the specific product, prescription and provider requirements before ordering. Bring any prescription or authorization documents you have. Our clinic offers custom orthotic assessments and compression sock fitting, with costs and applicable coverage explained before purchase.

Can I receive both physiotherapy and chiropractic care?

Yes, when both services are clinically appropriate and meet their respective coverage requirements. Having both available at our clinic allows your practitioners to coordinate care around your recovery goals. An approval for one service does not automatically authorize the other.

Can I choose your clinic instead of receiving treatment at a hospital?

For VAC Treatment Benefits, you can choose a provider who meets VAC’s requirements, subject to your individual coverage. If your care is arranged through a specific rehabilitation program or referral, contact us before changing providers so the authorization can be checked. The official Veterans Affairs treatment benefits information explains provider choice.

What should I bring to my first Veterans Affairs or CAF appointment?

Bring your healthcare identification details, any required referral or authorization, and relevant imaging reports if available. Wear comfortable clothing that allows examination of the affected area. For an orthotic assessment, bring the footwear you use most often. Call 905-827-4197 if you are unsure what paperwork you need—we’ll explain it before your visit.
